Game Boy Pocket Special Limited Edition “The Little Mermaid Treasure Pack”

Today I received a very cool Game Boy limited edition pack in the mail.

I believe it is an Australian exclusive pack which comes bundled with “The Little Mermaid” and the Ocean Blue Gameboy Pocket.

From what I have heard, this is the only way to get the Ocean Blue Pocket in a western box (Another one being the Donkey Kong Country Gold Limited Edition pack, also an Australia exclusive)

The game itself is decent, most Disney titles of old were pretty playable and this is no exception.

“Game Boy Pocket Ocean Blue, the ultimate accessory for any little princess”

Going Bananas over Jungle Green N64 and Forbidden Bridge (Board Game)

Image

Just a quick update today, I saw an auction on Ebay today for a Jungle Green N64 console and a few bits and pieces for a Buy it Now of $60 or starting price of $30.

I thought that the $60 BIN price was fair, but by the time I went to purchase it, someone had already placed a bid for the opening $30.  Pretty damn stupid considering the cost at the moment for these coloured console (especially for the Australia variants).  Eitherway, I thought I would try messaging the seller and ask if they would consider selling it to me for the original Buy it now price.

Lucky for me, she agreed and I was able to pick it up today, all in very good condition 🙂

The other cool thing I found today was the board game “Forbidden Bridge” a neat little game where you have to collect a gem and take it back to the start without falling off the bridge.  Everytime you roll the idol on the die, you have to push the statue head down and he shakes the bridge, if you fall while on the bridge, you lose your gem.

Pretty neat game.

Vintage Nintendo Toys – Slugger Mate, Balance Game and Roulette

One of the more interesting pieces in my collection are my 3 non electronic Nintendo games.

Image

The first one, which is just entitled “Roulette” which is, well, a Roulette set, it was produced I think in 1978-ish but there is no copyright on the box.

Image

It includes 3 different coloured chips (each with the old Nintendo Logo on them), the actual Roulette wheel and a cloth playing mat.

Not really much to say about this one, you place a bet, spin the wheel and win some satisfaction about guessing the right number.

A neat piece, but very low on the excitement metre.

The Next game ” Balance Game” has you setting up a circus like apparatus.  The aim is to remove a certain amount of discs as determined by the spinner around the edges without toppling the circus dude on top.

Image

My particular copy is actually missing a few of the white poles, but the man is supposed to be on top of another stick balancing, rather than nose planting the base.

It is rather difficult to put together because you really have to force all the pieces to “click” together, but that only makes it more sturdy once completed.

Image

I cannot actually play the game as the Circus man cannot balance, but it looks like it would be pretty rad to give it a whirl one day if I was able to source the extra poles.

The final game for today is the awesome “Slugger Mate” by the Nintendo Playing Card Company Co. Ltd and produced in 1967.

It is basically an automatic baseball pitcher for all those people with no friends (like me I guess)

Image

Image

It runs off a single “D” cell battery.  Once turned on, it slowly rotates a metal prong around in a circle, which spins the pitcher arm.  You can adjust the power of which the pitcher throws the ball by moving a metal switch on the bottom of the unit, which removes or adds tension to a spring which is directly attached to the pitching arm.  The Plastic baseball bat is extendable.

A very cool toy, but I think the motor inside is starting to freeze as it is sounding a little rusty and worse for wear.

I have made a little video of the pitcher in action, enjoy.

Eureka’s All Sports (Does not includes All Sports)

Let’s start with some good ol’ Windows 95 action.

Image

Here we have a PC game entitled “Eureka’s All Sports”  the title is a little ambiguous, as it alludes to having every sport ever made included, however what it actually means is that all the games in this package happen to be sport games although even this is not strictly true, but more on that topic later.

Now I believe the company “Eureka” who published this excellent compilation also released a whole bunch of shareware games in the early 90’s as well as a few of their own shitty games.  So I can probably take an educated guess and say these particular games are 100% full of computer code.

The front of the box claims “Twelve times the action” so I assume that there are 12 “All Sport” games in this lovely box, let’s take a look at the included games shall we?

Image

*Howzat Cricket 98 – I think I’d rather stick with Super International Cricket on the Super NES

*Five Basketball Games – A crummy looking Basketball game with no actual basketball games, just 5 “mini” games (Horse, Around the World, 3 Point Shootout, Sweat Boy and Hot Shot) on a side note, does this count as 5 games?

*Top Tennis – Apparently in this world, everything is green, including the players, net and umpire.  Pass

*Four Baseball Games – Same things as Basketball Games, no actual baseball games, just more average sleep inducing mini games.

* Fungo Fielding & Sign Calling – This game I take issue with, is sign calling an actual sport? The title on the box states “All Sports” packaging would not lie to me, would it?  It’s a game where you learn about signs in what I guess is baseball.  Exciting.

*Hooves of Thunder – Is this like Days of Thunder but with horses? because that would be awesome.  Apparently the horses in this game “become 1,200 pounds of Frothing Fury” as they make a mad dash for the wire(?) This one is okay, but only because there are so few horse racing games around.

So we have established that the games are the typical shovel ware of the time (and that there are actually 13 times the action including Fungo), but my main gripe with this title is the ridiculous box.

Image

Take a look at this thing, it’s like 3 DVD cases high and as thick as a Tom Clancy novel.  Maybe they include a cricket back or basketball in the packaging.

Nope, just two compact discs, an instruction booklet and a registration card.

Seriously, there are no shelves in my entire house I can put this on, even my bookshelf is not tall enough to house this monstrosity, the weirdest thing is the fact it has a hang tab.  I seriously can not fathom where in a store this would have hung.

Anyway, the games stink, the packaging sucks, but it does make a nice piece of hanging art.
